Distance Beta Overview

First off, thanks again for all of the support through backing Distance on Kickstarter or on our website. You made this game a reality! We’re incredibly excited to have you along for the ride and we’re super pumped to finally start this private Beta with you.

Just like the Alpha build, the Beta is still an experimental build of Distance. Features and content are subject to be removed, changed, or added at any moment! For the best experience we recommend downloading and playing the game on Steam as this version will generally be the easiest to keep up to date and it includes features like Steam Workshop and leaderboards.

Bug Reporting

As it is a Beta, the game is expected to contain bugs. As we continue development we’ll need your help to eradicate them, so as you find bugs please make sure to share them with us on our dedicated bug reporting page, either by clicking Report Bug in the menus, or directly visiting: refract.uservoice.com

Just make sure to read the helpful info at the top of the page before submitting!

General Feedback

If you haven’t signed up for the private discussion community yet, please use the Private Forum access key link found on your Humble Bundle download page. After linking your account you can then access the private area at the bottom of the official forum homepage: survivethedistance.com/forums

We’re open to any feedback or ideas that you may have, and we do our best to read through every comment that is posted. Please do remember though that we are a very small team and we simply can’t work on every idea that is submitted.

If you have any questions or want to keep up to date with the developers, we recommend following us on Twitter!

A Couple Notes About the Beta

Once again, since this is an early build we want to go over a few small things:

Video Policy

You're welcome to record and upload videos or stream Distance if you like! You're also free to monetize those videos on services like YouTube or similar video sharing websites. Just please keep in mind that Distance is still very early in development and will most likely change before the final release.

We simply ask that you link to survivethedistance.com in the video description so that viewers who want to learn more or pre-order the game can easily do so. It would also be greatly appreciated if you would indicate the current development status of Distance (i.e. Beta) in the video or description. We also ask that you don't give your copy of the game to other people.

Just remember that this only applies to Refract content. To use someone else's content in your video you'll need to obtain permission from that owner.

Linux Specific Information

While Distance has the potential to run on several distributions of Linux, almost all of our testing has been on Ubuntu 12.04+ and SteamOS. Distance is built with the Unity engine and Ubuntu is currently the only version of Linux that Unity officially supports.

Distance is a 32-bit application, so if you’d like to run it on a 64-bit version of Linux you might need to install some extra 32-bit libraries. On older versions of Ubuntu (i.e. 13.04 or earlier) you could do this with these two commands:

> sudo apt-get update

> sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

Newer versions of Ubuntu (i.e. 13.10 or newer) don’t include ia32-libs, so we’ve found that you’ll need to run the following commands to acquire the necessary libraries:

> sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386

> sudo apt-get install libXcursor1:i386

> sudo apt-get install libXrandr2:i386

> sudo apt-get install libasound2:i386

> sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugins:i386
